Massive airstrikes in Lebanon
The past 12 hours have witnessed a continuation of hostilities between Israel and Lebanon, with Hezbollah and Israel exchanging a barrage of attacks. The conflict has seen Hezbollah launch a series of coordinated strikes targeting Israeli positions and settlements along the Lebanese-Israeli border, utilizing rockets, drones, and explosive devices. Hezbollah claimed to have launched multiple missiles against Haifa as well as utilized multiple improvised explosive devices against IDF units operating across Southern Lebanon. So far, the IDF stated nine soldiers have been killed by Hezbollah.
Israel, in turn, has responded with extensive airstrikes on Lebanon, primarily targeting Hezbollah infrastructure and military positions in Beirut, Hermel, and the southern suburbs. Israel claimed to have killed over 200 Hezbollah members in recent days which included multiple senior commanders and operatives. The Israeli military also struck Iranian facilities in Syria, close to Khmeimim Air Base.
As of 1715 EST, Artorias received an initial report of a massive air strike in Beirut with unconfirmed reports that bunker busters might have been used.
Additionally, Yemen has joined the fray, launching a drone attack on Jaffa, Israel, in a show of solidarity with Palestinians and Lebanese. The Israeli military has claimed to have intercepted these drones, but the attacks underscore the expanding scope of the conflict.
The situation remains highly volatile, with both sides demonstrating a willingness to escalate the conflict. The UN, the US, and France have been involved in negotiations attempting to negotiate cease fire; however, Israel, with US backing, continues to plan a retaliation against Iran due to their ballistic missile attack.
Lastly, Lebanon Health Ministry claimed 1,974 killed, 9,384 injured since Oct. 8, 2023, with the World Health Organization stating 28 health workers died in an Israeli air strike yesterday.
The conflict’s impact on the region is significant. The increased civilian casualties in Lebanon and Gaza point to a humanitarian crisis unfolding. The possibility of a broader regional war, potentially involving Iran and other actors, looms large, threatening to destabilize the entire Middle East.
Artorias will continue to provide real-time intelligence updates as the situation evolves.
